About the Band

Five friends. Decades of experience. Infinite fun.

Who We Are

After Midnight is a five-piece cover band based in the Golden Triangle region of Southwestern Ontario, where good music lives! That's Kitchener-Waterloo, Guelph, Cambridge, Elora, Fergus, Rockwood, New Hamburg, and all the great places around here.

After Midnight plays the songs that fill dance floors, bring people together, put smiles on faces, and fill ears with the good stuff. Classic rock, country hits, roots, modern rock, and stuff in between.

We deliver polished, high-energy performances that keep the crowd moving all night long. With decades of combined experience across venues throughout Southern Ontario, the band has built a reputation for tight musicianship, great harmonies, and an infectious love of playing live music. Whether it's a packed bar, a wedding reception, or a community festival, After Midnight brings the same commitment and energy to every show.

Dave & Jim

Born into a musical family, Dave's early piano lessons were a dismal failure. That all changed at his first high school dance in 1971 when the opening bass note of Crimson and Clover sent chills down his spine. Two weeks later his father — the legendary Andy Sabola of Andy Sabola's Orchestra — had him playing gigs. (Trivia: that same drum kit and monogrammed head later ended up with Sloan and appeared in their early videos, quietly sparking the "Who is Andy Sabola?" mystery.)

From there Dave graduated to high school rock band Kaziff, then joined full-time touring and recording act Mynk Hollow in Alberta in 1982 — their lone album now rests in the Calgary Music Museum, still available to stream. Back in Ontario he played with Project People Show, Strictly Casual, and country outfit Imaginary Western before joining Hillbrook Connection in 2013. That band relaunched as After Midnight in 2024.

In loving memory of the legendary Andy Sabola, who would be proud.

Drums · Lead Vocals

Diego's drum story starts in 1988 with a kit and a lesson plan from Sherwood Music in Kitchener. By 1992 he was behind the kit for a Stratford-based progressive country/rock band — also called After Midnight — performing alongside his wife on lead vocals for many years before the band eventually went their separate ways.

After a family sabbatical, Diego found his way back to the stage in 2016, joining the long-running Waterloo and New Hamburg rock outfit Hillbrook Connection as drummer and vocalist. When Hillbrook's frontman retired in 2019, a new guitarist came aboard and the band rebranded — back to After Midnight.

Full circle.

Guitar

Jim picked up the guitar at 16 and hasn't put it down in 44 years. His first serious band was the KW region's acclaimed Project People Show, which eventually struck out on its own as Strictly Casual. After that chapter closed, Jim spent five years with the Com Dev Band before landing a long run — 28 years — with the popular local classic rock outfit Hillbrook Connection.

When Hillbrook rebranded as After Midnight, Jim came with it. Half a lifetime of playing, and he's still the one making it sound effortless.

Back in the day...

Tim "Blind River Slim" was born on the shores of Lake Huron, raised on the hard rocks of The Shield, and grew up on the streets of downtown Toronto.

Rock 'n Roll, Motown, metal, ol' country, funk, disco, rap, classical, jazz... Music of one kind or another has always been a living companion for Tim. At 12, though, the Blues bit hard... and sweet... and never let go. A Northern boy was hooked!

Whether it was madly banging the countertop with spoons to Motown rhythms blasting from an eight-track while the house was empty, blowin' trombone in a high school jazz band, beatin' on the drums while the teacher left the room, or scrapin' on an old acoustic in town squares across Europe, Tim always found his way to playing music.

With a cheap old electric in a roach infested room, Tim first felt the guitar's irresistible pull. Many years later, Blind River Slim's passion for the guitar led him to After Midnight.
